Children’s eyecare
Helping young eyes develop the way they should.
Eye examinations for toddlers, infants and children, with close links to the hospital orthoptic team.

A child’s eyesight is not fully formed at birth. It continues to develop up to the age of seven and beyond.
A child needs good, clear images in both eyes for their vision to develop normally. Sometimes neither the child nor the parent is aware of a problem until it is too late.
We recommend
A first eye examination at age 3½
Even younger if there is a family history of squint, or if you are concerned.
No reading needed
Toddlers & infants welcome
Your child does not need to be able to read to have an eye examination.
Working with the hospital
Newbold Opticians is a provider of paediatric shared care services for the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. We receive referrals from their Orthoptic Department and work closely with them to manage children’s eye care and development.
We can also refer to the Orthoptic Department through a direct access scheme, to speed up the process.
